MEQUON — After roughly five months of construction, Mequon’s 2023 road program is now completed.

The city, which began repairing select roads with crack seal and GSB-88 bituminous seal surface treatment applications on May 8, contracted with Payne & Dolan to complete the 2023 Road Program, which included approximately three and a half miles of new roadway. The program’s projects were completed around mid-September and were under budget, with only minor restoration needed throughout the project area.

"The city would like to thank the residents of the affected areas for their patience while work was completed on the new roads," according to the city’s weekly bulletin.

Streets and subdivisions included in this year’s road program were River Road (Highland Road to Freistadt Road), Trillium Road, Trillium Court, Helen Drive, Phillip Drive, Rael Drive, Shoreland Parkway, St. James Court, Hunt Club Court, Grace Court, Ravine Farm Subdivision (Woodlyn Drive, Ash Court, Post Court, Dalewood Lane and White Oak Way), and an Ozaukee Interurban Trail connecting path from Whitetail Court and various large road patches throughout the city.

"This program addresses improvements to residential and collector streets, including both rehabilitation and maintenance projects," according to the road program's interactive webpage. "Our goal is always to improve the road in the most cost effective and efficient manner while keeping it open for use and holding any inconveniences to a minimum.

The major improvements made in the Mequon Town Center — including Mequon Road and the Ozaukee Interurban Trail safety upgrades — are part of a separate project that is expected to be completed later this month.

Every year, each street in the city is evaluated and given a Surface Condition Rating (SCR) that helps to determine what streets to include in the annual road program, as well as the type of treatment each will receive.
