WAUKESHA — Some bus routes could be altered or eliminated under a proposal that will be discussed by the Common Council on Thursday at 6 p.m. The meeting was pushed back from Tuesday because of the spring election.

On the agenda to review and act on are proposed service changes that would be effective June 17. According to meeting documents, the changes would be done to increase efficiency of service. A resolution for minor changes to the route descriptions for Routes 4, 5 and 7 has been created and would need to be approved.

Also, some changes could be in store for bus routes that serve Waukesha schools, including eliminating the dedicated after-school trip on Route 4 that services Les Paul Middle School. This trip has averaged fewer than 2 passengers per school day this year and has had similar ridership in the past few school years, according to the documents.

Route 7 that served Butler Middle School and North High School could be shortened and the morning Route 5 trip, as well as the Route 6 6:30 a.m. trips to Waukesha West High School could be eliminated.

"The ridership this school year for the morning Route 5 West High trip has averaged under two rides per day total with only one passenger going to West High and the other typically going to the Shoppes at Fox River. Ridership to West High in the morning has been low the past few years but the big change for this school year is the West High morning trip was no longer incorporated into the regular bus route due to changes to the service from the system redesign implemented last June," according to the documents. "The Route 6 6:30 a.m. trip tied to the Route 5 West High trip would also be eliminated as that has averaged only 1 passenger/day."

Some bus stops could also be eliminated: Greenway Terrace at Butler (east side of street); Butler at Greenway Terrace (north side of street); Butler at Wolf (south side of street); Tenny at Sunset (southeast corner by Meijer); Progress at Prairie (south side of street); Main Street at The Strand (north side of street); and Main Street at Oakland (south side of street).

The council could also vote on a three-party construction contract between the city of Waukesha, the Waukesha County Community Foundation, and VJS Construction Services for the Waukesha Parade Memorial at Grede Park.

The Common Council will meet in the City Hall Council Chambers at 201 Delafield St.
