Durward W. Gauthier, ‘Dur’

Durward W. Gauthier, “Dur,” a resident of New Berlin, peacefully passed into eternal life on Thursday, April 4, 2024, at the age of 94. He was born in Oconto, Wisconsin, on June 9, 1929, to George and Irene Gauthier. Dur was a graduate of Lawrence College where he was an outstanding athlete. He proudly served his country in the United States Army.

On May 21, 1955, Dur married his beloved wife, Patricia “Patty” (Repinski), sharing 59 years of marriage until her passing on January 7, 2014. Devoted to his faith, Dur was a long-standing and active member of St. Mary Catholic Church. He worked for Wisconsin Bell for many years and served on the Board of Directors at Telco Credit Union for over 60 years.

Beyond his professional achievements and community involvement, Dur found joy in golfing, reading extensively, and traveling using AAA TripTiks to explore the United States. He was an avid Wisconsin sports fan and proud shareholder of the Green Bay Packers. However, his greatest source of happiness came from spending time with his family during gatherings filled with love and laughter.

Dur will be deeply missed by his children, Mary (Stephen) Frankel of Mequon, Jeffrey (Beth) Gauthier of Lake Zurich, IL, Christopher (Joanne) Gauthier of Verona, and Mark (Catherine) Gauthier of Stoughton. He was a proud grandfather to Allison and Paige Gauthier; Oliver, Peter, Scarlett, and Jack Gauthier; and Nicholas and Delaney Gauthier. He is also survived by other relatives and friends. In addition to his beloved wife Patty and parents George and Irene; he was predeceased by his sister Dorothy Gauthier.

Dur spent the last year of his life at Lakewood Assisted Living and Memory Care in Brookfield. The family would like to thank the Lakewood staff and caregivers for their loving care and attention. Dur, known as Goldilocks, felt right at home as a member of the Lakewood family. In addition, Brighton Hospice provided great comfort to Dur during his final weeks.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 11, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church located at 225 S. Hartwell Avenue in Waukesha, starting at 9:30 a.m. until the funeral Mass at 11 a.m. A private family burial will take place later that Thursday afternoon at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Milwaukee.
